The Pittsburgh Steelers released Cordarrelle Patterson, per the running back/kick returner himself, who noted the cut happened while the team had a one-day break in the training camp action.
The four-time Pro Bowler has played 12 NFL seasons, including last year with Pittsburgh. He rushed for 135 yards on 32 carries (4.2 yards per attempt) and caught 12 passes for 80 yards and a score. The 34-year-old also returned 11 kicks for 240 yards.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Patterson is inarguably one of the NFL's best returners in recent memory. He made the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2010s team because of his exploits, earning four First Team All-Pro nods as well. His nine kick return touchdowns stand as the most in NFL history. Patterson owns an average of 29.0 yards per kickoff return, and he led the league in kickoff yardage per return on three occasions.
Patterson has bounced around the league over the years. He began his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013 before heading to the Oakland Raiders (2017) and New England Patriots (2018), winning the Super Bowl with the latter team. Patterson then moved onto the Chicago Bears (2019-2021) and Atlanta Falcons (2022-2023) before heading to Pittsburgh.
So now Patterson looks for another home. As Mike Garafolo of NFL Network made clear, it isn't over for the long-time veteran just yet.
There's plenty of time before the regular season begins in early September, so we'll see if a team takes a chance on him soon enough.
