MLB Exec Says Giants, Reds Should Be 'Aggressive Buyers' amid Trade Deadline Rumors
There's belief around MLB that the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds should be among the teams looking to make major additions ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
An opposing executive told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic that the Giants and Reds should be "aggressive buyers" due to the final National League wild card spot being "open season."
Per Rosenthal, the Giants are targeting a second baseman and starting pitcher while the Reds are looking for a "middle-of-the order bat" and bullpen help.

Cincinnati and San Francisco own identical 54-50 records this season, as both teams sit one game behind the San Diego Padres for the third NL wild card berth. The Padres have struggled recently, owning a 4-6 record over their past 10 contests and are currently riding a four-game losing streak.
The Giants have already made a large splash on the trade market, acquiring Rafael Devers in a swap with the Boston Red Sox on June 15.
San Francisco could use some rotation help, especially after right-hander Landen Roupp was recently placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation. The Giants also optioned Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
As for the Reds, The Athletic's C. Trent Rosecrans reported Wednesday that there is "mutual interest" between them and the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade involving third baseman Eugenio Suárez.
Suárez, who played for Cincinnati from 2015 through 2021, would likely solve the team's production issues in the middle of the lineup with 36 home runs and 87 RBIs with Arizona this season.
