Matthew Stafford Week-to-Week amid Back Injury, Rams' Sean McVay Says
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed that quarterback Matthew Stafford is considered week-to-week with a back injury, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
The goal for Stafford and the Rams is to have him ready by Week 1 of the regular season, per Barshop.
McVay told reporters on Tuesday that the veteran signal-caller would be limited at the start of training camp due to back soreness.

"He had a little bit of soreness in his back that kind of crept up," McVay said at the time, via Stu Jackson of the team's official website. "He's been throwing, feeling good. It's not anything that's necessarily new, something that he's dealt with before. Going into Year 17, we were going to take a modified approach with him, kind of similar to what we did in the offseason program."
Stafford didn't suit up to open training camp, but was expected to participate in Los Angeles' first padded practice on Monday until McVay's latest announcement (via Barshop).
The 37-year-old missed the final seven games of the 2022 season due to a spinal cord contusion but has remained relatively healthy since, appearing in 31 of a possible 34 contests over the past two years combined.
Stafford also played in 16 regular-season games during his 2024 campaign, only missing the Rams' Week 18 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks due to rest as they had already clinched the NFC West.
While it could be a cause for concern if the two-time Pro Bowl passer is still unable to practice as the 2025 regular season draws closer, Los Angeles might also be taking a cautious approach with the veteran to avoid him potentially aggravating his injury with Week 1 still over a month away.
Until Stafford is able to return, backup Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to lead the Rams' first-string offense.
