Athletics' Nick Kurtz Says Historic 4-HR, 6-Hit MLB Game 'Feels Like A Dream'

Adam WellsJul 26, 2025

Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz had one of the greatest games in MLB history on Friday night, going 6-for-6 with four homers and eight RBI in a 15-3 win over the Houston Astros.

Kurtz, a 22-year-old rookie, could only describe his performance as something that "feels like a dream" when talking about it afterward.

"It's hard to think about this day being kind of real. It still feels like a dream," Kurtz told reporters during his postgame press conference "So it's pretty remarkable. I'm kind of speechless. Don't really know what to say."

Kurtz became the first rookie in MLB history to hit four homers in a single game. He is also the only player ever to record four home runs, five extra-base hits, six hits, six runs and eight RBI in the 105 years since RBI became an official stat.

As if that's not enough history for one player to make, Kurtz's 19 total bases are tied for the most in a single game since at least 1901. Shawn Green hit the mark in 2002 for the Los Angeles Dodgers when he also went 6-for-6 with four home runs.

Kurtz just missed becoming the first player in MLB history with five home runs in a game. He hit a ball to left-center field in the top of the fourth that hit off the wall for a double.

Per MLB Statcast, Kurtz's double would have been a homer in six different ballparks.

In an otherwise disappointing season for the A's, they have found two rookies who can be the centerpiece players for their future. Jacob Wilson, an All-Star this year, is hitting .312/.354/.439.

Kurtz has likely vaulted himself into the top spot for AL Rookie of the Year, ahead of Wilson, after Friday night. He is now hitting .305/.374/.686 with 23 homers in 66 games.

Among players with at least 250 plate appearances this season, Aaron Judge (.711) is the only one with a higher slugging percentage than Kurtz.
