Steelers 'Not Closing the Door' on Keeping Aaron Rodgers Beyond 2025, Omar Khan Says
The Pittsburgh Steelers might be looking into Aaron Rodgers beyond this upcoming season, according to general manager Omar Khan.
"We have to see how the season goes, but absolutely," Khan said on the Rich Eisen Show (3:45 mark). "He’s a young 41, and we’re obviously taking it year by year — that’s where we’re at. But we’re obviously not closing the door on anything."

As Rodgers enters his 21st NFL season, the Steelers are fully depending on the veteran to carry the team, potentially viewing him as their QB1 for the near future as well.
However, the four-time MVP has indicated that this upcoming season could be his last.
“I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show at the end of June (h/t The Athletic’s Jayna Bardahl and Mike DeFabo). “That’s why we just did a one-year deal, the Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that or anything. This was really just about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had."
“It’s been a long run and I’ve enjoyed it. What better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership, great guys and a city that expects you to win,” Rodgers continued.
Rodgers’ retirement has been a looming topic of conversation for the past few years, especially since he left his original franchise in the Green Bay Packers in 2022.
After two seasons with the New York Jets, he remained unsigned as a free agent until early June, with many believing he would retire instead of signing with a new team.
The infamously private star is looking forward to retirement and told McAfee, “You won’t see me,” after he walks away from the game.
Despite Khan’s comments, all signs are pointing to this season being his last.
“It’s not really can’t go out like this. It’s I love the game. I didn’t need this. I didn’t need it at all. I don’t feel the need to prove anything to anybody, (I don’t) have any chip on my shoulder that I need to hold onto. I don’t want the attention, I know that’s a narrative out there," Rodgers told McAfee. “I’m looking forward to that. But while I’m in it for this year, I’m going to give the Steelers everything I got and empty the tank and be super comfortable and satisfied with whatever happens.”
