Buy or Sell Latest WWE SummerSlam 2025 Rumors, Seth Rollins Injury Audible, More
With SummerSlam on the horizon, the pro wrestling rumor mill manages to match even the most sweltering of heat waves.
One can keep it simple and start right at the top: SummerSlam buzz includes The Rock getting a mention in one of the headline rumblings.
That’s not meant to undersell the rest, of course. There is quite a notable Roman Reigns rumor making the rounds, supposed plans about the main events of the two-night event and even a little buzz about big changed plans and how things could butterfly effect out of those.
To help fans keep up with the latest buzz amongst the onslaught, here’s a look at the most notable worth a look and whether fans should buy or sell on each.
Charlotte Flair Changed Plans?
1 of 6
The Rumor
It seemed like fans knew where things were going with the Charlotte Flair-Alexa Bliss angle. But according to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), the tag team has done so well that a planned SummerSlam match is no more.
Reaction
Pro wrestling fans should embrace this one with open arms. WWE seeing something working well and not stubbornly forcing through other plans is nothing short of a good thing. It helps that the tag dynamic between Flair and Bliss is downright awesome, too.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Now we just have to hope WWE can ignore the impulse to spoil things and go the originally planned route. Sometimes it’s best to let stuff like this simmer for a while and do the intended swerves and payoffs later. Right now, this is one of the best things going in WWE.
Roman Reigns Tag Match Plans?
2 of 6
The Rumor
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed is set in stone, according to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ortman). The speculation is obvious: Big names not eating pins is part of the motivation.
Reaction
Reed is going to eat the pin, no doubt. Fans know this. More interesting is the how WWE gets to that point and whether bigger storyline ideas come to fruition to really keep the next few months after the major event interesting.
Buy or Sell?
Easy buy. This tag match is a good way to keep some of these guys away from the top titles right now, keep looking strong by not eating pins and develop some storylines with wide-ranging implications. It’s a smartly deployed tag match, not a throwaway.
SummerSlam Main Event Schedule?
3 of 6
The Rumor
Questions linger around how Night 1 and Night 2 of SummerSlam will conclude. According to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ortman), the Night 1 main event belongs to Gunther vs. CM Punk, while John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes will close Night 2.
Reaction
Title matches closing shows isn’t exactly shocking. Even so, the intercontinental title clash between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria (Saturday, per the writeup) was a contender, as were women’s main-event title matches featuring names like Naomi, Rhea Ripley and Tiffany Stratton.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. The wildcard here was always the mentioned Reigns tag match, If WWE wants to throw some major storyline developments that start the build to next year’s WrestleMania into that match, it probably closes one of the nights. But if not, the top titles are the obvious main-eventers.
Plans for The Rock?
4 of 6
The Rumor
About The Rock and major storylines just getting started. According to Bodyslam.net (h/t Ortman), Rock isn’t due back “in the near future” despite fan speculation around SummerSlam.
Reaction
Say hello to what feels like a super-obviously planted story from WWE itself. Rock hasn’t had the most positive reaction from fans lately, given all that happened around Travis Scott and WrestleMania, but if he’s going to come back and get involved again, SummerSlam would be the spot where that happens.
Buy or Sell?
Sell on Rock not showing up. This feels too obvious. The only question is whether he gets back in the mix around Rhodes and Cena or swerves off and reignites a little family drama with Reigns. Either way, this would be a good launching point to start building toward next year’s Mania.
Seth Rollins Injury Fallout
5 of 6
The Rumor
The impact of Seth Rollins’ injury is hard to exaggerate. For now, according to Bodyslam.net (h/t Ortman), hindsight says that Rollins was supposed to beat LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event before Knight would get his rematch and win at SummerSlam.
Reaction
According to this, Rollins called an audible in real time after suffering an injury. That seemed obvious enough as things unfolded on SNME, most because, frankly, WWE isn’t usually that good at faking an injury.
Buy or Sell?
Buy on the audible, sell on Knight getting a win back at SummerSlam. It’s hard to see why WWE would go through the trouble of all this just to have Rollins lose at perhaps the second-biggest stage of the year. Perhaps it would’ve been a betrayal by his own faction. But it also feels like if WWE really wanted to pull the proverbial trigger on Knight, it would’ve done so already.
Stephanie Vaquer Up Next?
6 of 6
The Rumor
Fans have certainly noticed the recent push for Stephanie Vaquer. According to WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Ortman), there are “character upgrades” on the way for Vaquer, especially after her recent interview in the spotlight with Stephanie McMahon.
Reaction
This all feels very orchestrated coming out of Evolution 2, where Vaquer overcame a 20-wrestler battle royale for a big win, then got the McMahon bump via the post-triumph interview.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Vaquer has very obviously been earmarked for a big push at some point in the future. Now certainly feels like a great time, though what’s perhaps most interesting of all here is just how all involved plan to go about the so-called character upgrades.
