Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
While you'd still bet on the 2023 first-round pick being the starting QB for the Colts in Week 1, they're at least giving the impression he needs to earn the job. They went out and signed Daniel Jones to a $14 million contract, and Jones is splitting reps with the first team in training camp.
Just look at how principal owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon discussed Richardson in a recent interview with JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site.
"Where he is in his career and in his deal as a rookie, we still have time," she said. "He still has time to prove it."
Irsay-Gordon added that "nothing brings a sense of urgency more than competition."
Preaching patience for a young franchise quarterback entering his third season isn't where anyone wants to be. But it all underlines how important it is for Richardson to show progress on the field.
Between injuries and his midseason benching in 2024, the 23-year-old has made just 15 appearances. In those games, he threw for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing just over half (50.6 percent) of his passes.
The potential is clearly there with Richardson, but it hasn't fully materialized.
Few offseason tropes are more enduring than an athlete saying they're in the best shape of their life.
Richardson's mobility is an obvious component to his overall value, so slimming down a bit can only help. Maybe it can even aid him in staying healthy over the duration of the campaign.
