Eagles' A.J. Brown Says He's NFL's Best WR, Wants to 'Put a Stamp On It' in 2025

Adam WellsJul 23, 2025

Having been named to the All-Pro team in each of the past three seasons, A.J. Brown believes he belongs atop the list of best wide receivers in the NFL.

Speaking to reporters from training camp on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles star said he "truly" feels like he's the best wideout in the league and wants to "put a stamp on it" this season.

As for what it would take to put Brown on the top of the receiver rankings, his criteria is his own and not necessarily one that he will publicly disclose.

Brown is unique among the top receivers in that he has never led the league in any of the triple-crown categories. For instance, Ja'Marr Chase is coming off a season in which won the receiver triple crown with 127 catches, 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Some of this is a function of the Eagles offense because they favor a run-heavy approach. This was especially true in 2024 when they had the largest run-to-pass splits in the NFL. Their 41.9 percent pass rate was more than four percent lower than the No. 31 team (Baltimore Ravens: 46.3 percent).

No one would argue that was a bad strategy when Saquon Barkley was in the midst of one of the best running back seasons of all-time, but it did depress Brown's stats to some extent.

Brown finished last season with his fewest yards per game (83.0) and receptions per game (5.15) as a member of the Eagles. Some of his numbers were also impacted by a hamstring injury that kept him out for three games early in the year.

Yet no one disputes that Brown ranks among the best receivers in the NFL right now. He came in at No. 5 among all players at the position in a recent survey of coaches, scouts and executives conducted by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

"He's still awesome," a veteran scout said of Brown to Fowler. "He comes up big when you need him, he's still incredibly strong and fast enough. A nightmare to tackle. Maybe a tad slower than he was, but that's slight."

Even having missed four games last season, Brown still made it on the All-Pro second team. He is only 28 and has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark five times in his first six seasons.

There's no good reason to bet against Brown being the best wideout in the league this season given that he's still in his prime and established resume of high-level performance.
