Red Sox Reportedly Not 'Inclined' to Make 'Large-Scale' Trades Amid MLB Rumors

The Boston Red Sox are hoping to end their three-year postseason drought, but it doesn't sound like they'll be very active before the July 31 trade deadline to improve their roster.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported, "At this moment, the Red Sox are not inclined to engage in any large-scale deadline moves."

The Red Sox already made one of the biggest moves of the season when they sent veteran slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. While there were some early-season struggles in Boston, the team has gotten back on track and sits in third place in the AL East with a 54-49 record.

Passan pointed to the lackluster trade market as the key reason why the Red Sox likely won't be looking to make any splashy moves before the deadline passes.

"Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has said the team wants to add after trading Devers, and while it would surprise no one if they did, Boston is an organization that deeply values operating efficiently, and a market like this is the epitome of inefficient," Passan stated. "Holding now would speak to the Red Sox's comfort with their current roster and the exceptional price to bolster it."

Still, there are some holes that Boston could look to fill over the next week. Passan mentioned Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan and Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo as potential targets for the Red Sox.

Any improvements will bolster Boston's chances of returning to the playoffs, but the team's best course could be to stand pat and rely on its current crop of players to achieve that goal.
