Commanders GM Talks Terry McLaurin Contract, Will 'Do Whatever We Can' amid Rumors

Adam WellsJul 22, 2025

Amid speculation that Terry McLaurin could hold out of training camp while waiting for a new contract, Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters is hoping to work out a deal with the star wide receiver.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday as Commanders veterans report to training camp, Peters said they will "do whatever we can" to figure things out with McLaurin.

Peters added his expectation is McLaurin will show up to camp today.

In the event McLaurin does hold out, Peters didn't seem concerned about that being a huge issue or detriment to eventually getting a deal done.

McLaurin spoke about being "pretty frustrated" with where things stand between the two sides. One source of his frustration was that the Commanders have not had talks with his representatives in one month.

Even though McLaurin said in those public comments he wasn't looking to leave Washington, Fox Sports' Henry McKenna reported on Monday he will "explore every option" if it comes to that.

Those options could include a trade request, holdout or hold-in. A hold-in would allow McLaurin to avoid being fined without participating in training camp practices. A holdout would cost him $50,000 per day in fines.

McLaurin's contract situation has been the only dark cloud over an otherwise optimistic time for the Commanders franchise. They are coming off an appearance in the NFC Championship Game last season for the first time since winning Super Bowl 26 in January 1992.

Jayden Daniels looks like he's ready to join the group of top-tier quarterbacks after a historic rookie season. The Commanders brought in Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil in the offseason to give their offense more weapons to use.

McLaurin, who is entering the final season of his three-year, $68.4 million contract, has been the go-to receiver for every quarterback he's played with in Washington. The 29-year-old has recorded five consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards and set a career-high with 13 touchdowns in 2024.
