Cardinals Reportedly Plan to Keep Nolan Arenado Through 2025 MLB Trade Deadline
Nolan Arenado is expected to remain with the St. Louis Cardinals through the trade deadline after teams showed a lack of interest in the third baseman, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
Arenado reportedly rejected potential deals with the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels, which has since deterred other teams from pursuing him.
The news comes after it was reported Saturday that the New York Yankees were expected to inquire about the third baseman.
"I think the Yankees are the likeliest contender [for Arenado], with the financial ability to take on his deal and an obvious need at third base after moving Jazz Chisholm back to second base for good," CBS Sports' Chris Towers reported.
The 34-year-old has been in St. Louis since 2021 — and appears likely to stay — batting .244 this season with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs for the 51-48 Cardinals this season.
