Shohei Ohtani 'All About The Team' Amid Dodgers Lineup Change, Dave Roberts Says

Taylyn Hadley Jul 20, 2025

Shohei Ohtani is out of the leadoff spot and Mookie Betts is in after weeks of consideration — a change Ohtani fully supports.

The ace has no issues moving out of the top of the order and is “all about the team,” Ohtani's manager Dave Roberts said, per MLB Network’s David Vassegh.

Moving Ohtani into the two-hole allows Betts to “redirect his focus to getting on base rather than mechanics,” and he’ll remain in that spot at least until Max Muncy returns, Roberts said, per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

The move gives Betts an opportunity to break out of his hitting slump, as he's currently batting just .241 with a .688 OPS.

Ohtani will make his second-spot debut in the Dodgers' lineup on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, marking his first game not hitting leadoff since June 16, 2024.
