Julia StumbaughJul 19, 2025

Napheesa Collier was named MVP of the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game after a historic performance on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Collier set a WNBA All-Star record with 36 points, while Skylar Diggins set another All-Star standard with 15 assists as part of a triple-double that helped lead Team Collier to a 151-131 win over a team coached by the Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, who was forced to miss the midseason exhibition with a groin injury.

Team Collier, led by starting lineup of Collier alongside Nneka Ogwumike, Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers and Allisha Gray, dominated in a game featuring several rule changes, including a shortened shot clock and a four-point circle.

Dallas Wings rookie Bueckers got the game started with a four-pointer from well beyond the arc:

Reigning 3-point contest champion and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu helped Team Clark stay in the game with eight points in the first quarter.

But Ionescu's long-range shooting wasn't enough to stop Team Collier from surging out to a 13-point first-quarter lead, thanks in part to a 12-point quarter from the Los Angeles Sparks' Kelsey Plum.

Plum also highlighted the quarter by forcing her former Las Vegas Aces teammate A'ja Wilson out of bounds with a sideline hug:

Collier helped build on her team's lead in the second quarter with back-to-back four-pointers:

The New York Liberty's Breanna Stewart tried out an innovative play in the second quarter by passing to the Atlanta Dream's Rhyne Howard on the sideline:

Team Collier led by 22 points at halftime thanks to Collier's team-high 18 points as Clark, who was sidelined by injury, called for more four-point shots from her team.

Collier hit the 30-point threshold following a pass from fellow former UConn star Bueckers:

Bueckers also assisted on a fourth-quarter bucket by Angel Reese, who formerly joined Bueckers as a top prospect in the 2020 college recruiting class:

Team Collier then broke two WNBA records with one four-point shot as Diggins broke the event's assist record with her 12th helper on Collier's record-breaking 35th point of the night.

The All-Star Game scoring record was set at 34 points by Arike Ogunbowale in 2024, while the assists record was set by Sue Bird in 2017.

Collier finished the game with 36 points on 13-for-16 shooting from the field. Diggins recorded 11 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists for the triple-double, while Allisha Gray posted 18 points and Ogwumike and Plum added 16 points apiece.

Reese finished with nine rebounds, while Bueckers recorded eight assists.

Kelsey Mitchell led Team Clark in the loss with 20 points, while Sabrina Ionescu contributed 12 points and Gabby Williams added 16.

Kayla Thornton, Brionna Jones, Brittney Sykes, Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron each hit double-digit point totals, while Thornton and Iriafen each recorded double digits in Team Clark's loss.
