Wright spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the Mets, earning seven All-Star nods, two Gold Gloves and two Silver Sluggers.

“I never accomplished my goal of bringing a World Series back to Queens, but I promise you I gave it everything I had and wanted it just as badly as you did,” Wright told the crowd after watching his number rise into the rafters.

From 2004–2018, the All-Star had his best statistical season in 2008, posting a career-high 124 RBI and 33 home runs. The year before, he recorded personal bests with a .325 batting average, .416 OBP, .546 SLG and .963 OPS.

Wright stands as the most accomplished player in Mets history, finishing his 14-year career with 242 home runs and 970 RBI—both franchise records.

As the 10th player in franchise history to have his number retired by the Mets, “The Captain” felt right at home as he watched his No. 5 rise at Citi Field.

"It almost, to me, feels like the feeling you get when you come home from a long trip or you've been away and you get the chance to come home," Wright said in a news conference ahead of the retirement.

"Thank you so much for letting me live out my dream in front of you each night. I love you all so much—let’s go Mets!"
