Angel Reese Talks Her WNBA Development, Says Game Has 'Slowed Down' for Her
Ahead of the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis on Saturday, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese assessed the continued maturation of her game.
In an interview with ESPN's Elle Duncan (beginning at the 50-second mark of the video), Reese discussed some of her shortcomings as a rookie and how she has taken her game to the next level during her second season:
"I'm was figuring it out," Reese said. "Trial and error. Don't feel like I was as focused on my game specifically. Trying to figure things out so fast and not giving myself grace, and I feel like I was rushing everything. I think right now the game has completely calmed down for me, slowed down for me. Now, it's me. It's me against anybody. That's just how I feel now, and I think when your confidence is through the roof, you feel like your best self, and that's how I feel right now."
After starring collegiately at Maryland and LSU, and leading the Tigers to a national title in 2023 as the NCAA tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Reese went seventh overall to the Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft.
She made a sizable impact as a rookie, averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game en route to being named an All-Star and finishing second to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark in the WNBA Rookie of the Year voting.
Despite that success, Reese struggled with efficiency, shooting just 39.1 percent from the field.
Reese has improved significantly in that regard this season, though, shooting 44.6 percent and averaging 14.0 points per contest.
She is also averaging 12.6 rebounds to go along with 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals, which speaks to the expansion and overall improvement of her game.
Reese made plenty of history as a rookie, breaking the single-season WNBA rebounding record and becoming the first player in WNBA history to record 20 or more rebounds in three straight games.
That has carried over to this season, surpassing Tina Charles as the fastest player in WNBA history to 500 career points and 500 career rebounds, accomplishing the feat in 38 games.
Reese has now been named to back-to-back All-Star teams to start her career, and on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET, she will come off the bench for Team Collier against Team Clark in the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.
