Caitlin Clark Out for Fever vs. Liberty with Groin Injury, All-Star Game Status TBD

Andrew PetersJul 16, 2025

Caitlin Clark has had her second season in the WNBA derailed by injuries, and she's set to miss another game because of a lingering groin injury.

Per ESPN's Alexa Philippou, Clark has been downgraded to out for Wednesday's game against the New York Liberty. Clark aggravated a groin injury she's been dealing with in recent weeks during Tuesday's win against the Connecticut Sun.

Philippou noted that Clark's status is still to be determined for the All-Star Game.

Head coach Stephanie White provided a brief update on the injury before the game:

Clark missed five games at the end of June and the start of July because of a groin injury she suffered in a win over the Seattle Storm on June 24. She managed to suit up in four consecutive games over the last week, but appeared injured in the final minute of Wednesday's game.

After the win, White said Clark "felt a little something in her groin" and would be evaluated. Ahead of her return from the groin injury last week, Clark said that she felt "good for the most part" but was still dealing with some soreness.

Clark also missed a two-week stretch from the end of May to mid-June after suffering a quad injury.

White also spoke about the "level of physicality" Clark receives from opponents.

"There's a level of physicality that they're able to play with against her," White said. "I knew it as an opponent, and I see it as her coach. I'm not exactly sure why, but it just is what it is. We've gotta help her learn to adjust and use it against them in certain ways, we've gotta find some ways to make it a little bit easier for her. But the level of physicality overall in our league has been at a different level than it's been for a long time."

Clark, the reigning Rookie of the Year who just earned her second All-Star nod, is putting up 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. She's been a bit inconsistent with her shot this season, shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 27.9 percent from deep, but that could be a result of missing so much time.

The Fever are 12-10 on the year, sitting in sixth place in the WNBA with just one game left before the All-Star break.

While the best scenario would be for Clark to miss no time, having the All-Star break right around the corner could give her the chance to fully recover and attack the second half of the season strong.
