Freddy Peralta, Joe Ryan Reportedly Unlikely to Be Traded at MLB Deadline amid Rumors

Scott PolacekJul 16, 2025

With the MLB All-Star Game in the rearview mirror, attention now turns to the looming trade deadline on July 31 at 6 p.m. ET.

But don't expect Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers or Joe Ryan of the Minnesota Twins to be moved.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported both pitchers have "been floated as possible trade chips" but noted they are "unlikely to be moved before the deadline."

That the Brewers aren't looking to trade Peralta comes as no surprise. After all, they are 16 games over .500 at 56-40 and just one game behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central. They are also in playoff position as the top NL wild-card team.

They also won their final seven games prior to the All-Star break, including a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. That is the resume of a buyer not a seller, and Peralta is a major reason the team is in the middle of the postseason race.

He has a 2.66 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 118 strikeouts in 111.2 innings as the leader of a rotation that also features phenom Jacob Misiorowski. The Brewers would be able to get plenty in return for Peralta, but they surely don't want to sacrifice their chances to play deep into October with such a move.

As for Ryan, the Twins are still just four games out of the final American League wild-card spot despite being two games under .500 at 47-49. They could still make a late-season push, and the right-hander would likely be a part of that if he is still on the roster.

He has a 2.72 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 121 strikeouts in 109.1 innings and was named to the first All-Star Game of his career.

Ryan is also under team control through the 2027 season, so they could always trade him in future seasons if they are not contending and accelerate a potential rebuild.
