WNBA Announces 4-Point Shot, More Special Rule Changes for 2025 All-Star Game

Paul KasabianJul 16, 2025

The WNBA announced four rule changes for Saturday's All-Star Game in Indianapolis, including a four-point shot.

Opportunities to score four-point shots will be available to players from designated shooting circles 28 feet from the rim.

The game will also feature a 20-second shot clock, live-play substitutions and automatic points being rewarded in place of free-throw attempts.

These rules, which are special to the All-Star Game and will not be used during league play, will be implemented "for the purpose of providing added excitement and an enhanced pace of play," the league said.

There will be four four-point spots on the court, all from 28 feet away from the rim. They will each be placed around each quadrant of the center court logo. The shots will be sponsored by AT&T, and each made shot will result in a donation to "foundations supported by the WNBA and selected by players."

As for the shot clock, the rule of resetting to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound will still apply.

Only teams possessing the ball can make live play substitutions. One-for-one subs are the only types of moves that can be made, and they must be done in the backcourt. Subs must occur between the 28-foot line and the half-court line.

This year's All-Star Game is set for an 8:30 p.m. ET tipoff between teams captained by Napheesa Collier and Caitlin Clark.
