Nathan Eovaldi Receives $100K Rangers Contract Bonus Despite Not Making All-Star Team

Adam WellsJul 16, 2025

Nathan Eovaldi received his All-Star bonus from the Texas Rangers even though he wasn't included on the American League All-Star team this season.

Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Rangers gave Eovaldi the $100,000 bonus in his contract based on how well he has played so far in 2025.

When the All-Star rosters were originally announced, Eovaldi frequently appeared on lists of the biggest snubs. He did miss one month from late-May to late-June due to a triceps injury that may have hurt his standing.

On a statistical level, though, Eovaldi might have had the best argument for an AL pitcher other than Tarik Skubal to start the Midsummer Classic. He is the only pitcher with at least 90 innings pitched with an ERA under 2.00 (1.58).

Eovaldi's 6.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks second in MLB, trailing only Skubal (9.56).

Since returning from the triceps injury on June 27, Eovaldi has looked like the same pitcher he was early in the season. The right-hander has a 1.66 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 17.2 innings over four starts.

It's not uncommon for teams to reward players who are having All-Star-caliber seasons with their contract bonus. Cristopher Sánchez received his $50,000 bonus from the Philadelphia Phillies despite not making the NL squad.

Eovaldi has made the All-Star team twice, including his first season with the Rangers in 2023. He was also the winning pitcher for the clinching Game 5 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the end of that season.

The Rangers (48-49) will come out of the All-Star break looking to claw their way into the playoffs in a crowded AL field. They are currently 3.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final wild card spot.
