Aaron surpassed Babe Ruth in all-time home runs on April 8, 1974, and ultimately finished his career with 755 dingers, an MLB record at the time of his retirement. He did so while enduring consistent racism and hatred, hurdles that scores of Black players have faced throughout the sport's history.
Through it all, Aaron became an American icon and one of the greatest players in MLB history. Tuesday's tribute was more than fitting.
