D-Backs' Eugenio Suarez Discusses Yankees Rumors in Video Ahead MLB Trade Deadline

Andrew PetersJul 14, 2025

Amid rumors ahead of the trade deadline, Arizona Diamondbacks star Eugenio Suárez discussed the possibility of playing for the New York Yankees.

While he didn't clarify if he has a preference in a possible trade, he said he'd give his all for the Yankees.

"I feel it's a team who wants to win," he said. "They had a taste last year, but they're hungry still. If I got over there, I would do my best and try to help them win the World Series."

Suárez has been outstanding this year, hitting 31 homers, 78 RBI and a .250 batting average.

But his success hasn't led to wins for the Diamondbacks as they sit in fourth place in the NL West at 47-50. Because of Arizona's struggles, it appears the team is leaning toward being sellers at the deadline.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Sunday that the Diamondbacks "will definitely be sellers at the trade deadline according to rival executives." Nightengale noted that Suárez, among others, will be one of the players Arizona will make available.

The Yankees have been desperate for infield help this season, specifically at third base.  Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported earlier this month that the team was "starting to make calls" about a third baseman.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. recently moved from third base to second base, and he's made it clear that he prefers to be at second.

“Everybody knows I’m a second baseman,” Chisholm said earlier this month, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. “Of course, I want to play second base, but whatever it takes to help the team win. If that’s what the team chooses, that’s what I gotta do. I don’t write the lineups. You feel me?"

As the trade deadline nears, it wouldn't be surprising to see New York make a run at Suárez, considering he's been one of the best players at his position this year and is relatively affordable.
