Where Garrett Wilson $130M Jets Contract Ranks Behind Ja'Marr Chase, Top WRs in AAV

Scott PolacekJul 14, 2025

Garrett Wilson is among the best wide receivers in the NFL, and now he is being paid accordingly.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Wilson and the New York Jets agreed to a four-year, $130 million contract extension that features $90 million in guarantees and keeps him with the AFC East team through 2030.

Schefter noted "it marks the first time in NFL history that a receiver has received an average over $31 million after playing only three seasons."

Here is a look at how it stacks up with some of his peers:

New York already exercised its fifth-year club option on Wilson's deal earlier this offseason and did the same with cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive end Jermaine Johnson. That put the wide receiver in line to make $16.8 million in 2026.

But now there is more of a long-term commitment between the Ohio State product and the only NFL team he has ever known.

He also will be among the highest-paid New York athletes with Karl-Anthony Towns, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and others:

Wilson is being paid like a franchise cornerstone, and that is exactly what he figures to be for the coming seasons. His resume already includes the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year and more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons in the league, and he is coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him post 101 catches for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.

Those were all career-best numbers for a playmaker who was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing year for the Jets.

New York looked to put that disappointing year in the rear-view mirror when it didn't bring Aaron Rodgers back, which was notable in regard to Wilson as well considering NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in December that "privately, there have been questions regarding whether Rodgers and Wilson can find common ground since they had a blowup during training camp.

"While Wilson will not publicly say it, those who know him well believe he's been frustrated at the lack of looks from Rodgers while wondering what else he can do to fix the relationship."

Ideally for the Jets, that won't be a problem this season with Justin Fields under center.

Fields and Wilson were college teammates with the Buckeyes and surely have a built-in chemistry they can build on at the NFL level. Wilson can also solely focus on building that chemistry as well now that he has a new contract extension.
