Diana Taurasi, Alex Morgan to Receive Icon Award at 2025 ESPYS After Historic Careers

Joseph ZuckerJul 14, 2025

ESPN will honor 11-time WNBA All-Star Diana Taurasi and United States women's national team legend Alex Morgan at the 2025 ESPYS on Wednesday night.

Taurasi and Morgan will share the Icon Award, which celebrates "their incredible careers and significant impact on the world of sports." Retired college football coach Nick Saban received the accolade at last year's show.

Taurasi is widely considered one of the greatest players in history and was voted by fans as the WNBA's GOAT when the league asked the question in 2021.

The former Phoenix Mercury star walked away from the W as the all-time leading scorer (10,646 points) and also ranks fourth in assists with 2,394.

The team accolades speak for themselves with Taurasi. She was a three-time WNBA champion and twice named WNBA Finals MVP. She captured three national titles in college at UConn. And she's a six-time gold medalist in the Summer Olympics.

Morgan is also an Olympic gold medalist, helping the U.S. come out on top in the 2012 Summer Games in London. She has a pair of World Cup winner's medals as well from 2015 and 2019.

The 36-year-old is part of a "golden generation" for the USWNT and helped to define that era. She made 224 appearances for the national team and her 123 goals are fifth-most all time.

At the club level, Morgan spent the second half of the 2016-17 season at Olympique Lyonnais as it completed a treble by winning its domestic league, the Coupe de France Féminine and the UEFA Women's Champions League.

In the U.S., she was a champion in the old WPS with the Western New York Flash in 2011 and played a pivotal role in the Portland Thorns' NWSL title in 2013.

Morgan's biggest legacy comes off the pitch. She was among the USWNT stars who pushed for more pay equity from the national federation, a goal that was achieved in 2022.
