Ravens' Lamar Jackson '1 of a Kind' and 'Doesn't Get Enough Credit,' Say NFL Coaches

Joseph ZuckerJul 14, 2025

Lamar Jackson is a two-time MVP and a three-time All-Pro, yet the Baltimore Ravens quarterback might still be slightly underrated.

Jackson was fourth in the annual QB rankings from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, which are based on input from NFL coaches, executives and scouts. At least one respondent had him as low as sixth.

The 28-year-old received plenty of high praise.

"A 10-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio [10.3], winning percentage is insane [74.4 percent] and he's a leading rusher on any team he's on," one coach said. "He's one of a kind."

An anonymous defensive coordinator pointed to Jackson's development as a pure passer.

"Best space runner in the NFL, and he's such a good passer now," they said. "He probably doesn't get enough credit for how he's improved there."

ESPN Quarterback Rankings

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

4. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

5. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

6. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

8. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

9. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

10. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

For a long time, Jackson's loudest critics focused on his aerial numbers, which didn't compare favorably to some of the traditional QBs around the league. Under offensive coordinator Todd Monken, he has refined his passing skills to address his skeptics head-on.

Jackson threw for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns to just four interceptions in 2024. He led the league in QB rating (119.6) and QBR (77.3).

The Ravens star did that while sacrificing little value as a runner, going for 915 yards and four scores on the ground.

As with the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen, the absence of a Super Bowl title remains a glaring omission on Jackson's on-field résumé.

In terms of his individual skill and development, Baltimore couldn't have asked for more from its franchise cornerstone.
