Jayden Daniels Ranked No. 5 Best QB in NFL After Rookie Season by Coaches, Execs

Zach BacharJul 14, 2025

After an impressive rookie season, Jayden Daniels is already viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

In the latest survey of NFL executives, coaches and scouts conducted by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Washington Commanders signal-caller was ranked as the No. 5 player at his position.

ESPN Quarterback Rankings

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

4. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

5. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

6. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

8. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

9. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

10. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While the No. 5 spot is already high for a player with one year of NFL experience under his belt, there's belief that he can rise even further up the rankings.

"The kid can read coverages, throw with accuracy and touch to all levels of the field, just as dangerous as Lamar and Josh Allen with his legs and has a clutch factor to him because his team already believes that if he has the ball with a chance to win, he's going to find a way," an NFL coordinator told Fowler. "If he repeats anything close to his rookie year, he's no lower than No. 3 on this list next year."

Daniels blew past expectations during his inaugural year with the Commanders, helping them finish with a 12-5 record and advance to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1991 season.

He completed 69.0 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions. Daniels also rushed for 891 yards, setting a new single-season record among first-year players.

The 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year also averaged 274 yards per game through the air during Washington's playoff run, tossing five touchdowns while getting picked off once.

The Commanders have focused on building their offense around Daniels over the offseason, trading for wide receiver Deebo Samuel in a deal with the San Francisco 49ers and acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a swap with the Houston Texans.

As Daniels prepares to build upon his stellar rookie season, expectations are high for the 24-year-old.
