Alex Bregman, Red Sox Reportedly Haven't Discussed New Contract Amid MLB Trade Rumors
As other teams eye Boston Red Sox star Alex Bregman on the trade market, he and his current team reportedly haven't had talks about a new contract.
Per the New York Post's Jon Heyman, Bregman and the Red Sox "haven’t yet spoken about an extension," though Heyman noted that the two sides "wouldn’t mind getting something done."
The Athletic's Jim Bowden reported last week that the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers have all been linked to Bregman, though Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic noted that the possibility of the Red Sox biting on a trade is "remote."

Even if Bregman and Boston are unable to come to an agreement on a long-term extension this year, he's potentially under contract through 2027, though he does have an opt-out available after this season and a player option in 2027.
Bregman's agent, Scott Boras, said he's also open to the idea of renegotiating his deal with the Red Sox.
"I always tell the team—and Alex directs me to tell them—we're always open to any conversation," Boras told Tim Healey of the Boston Globe. "Any player who plays well somewhere, it's something that's important for the team and important for the player. It's an additive."
Bregman returned to the lineup on Friday after missing more than a month of action due to a quad injury. In 53 games, he's hit 11 home runs and 35 RBI with a .298 batting average.
The Red Sox struggled through June, but have been on fire in recent weeks. They've won 10 consecutive games, enough to put them right back in the playoff race heading into the second half of the season.
Had Boston's struggles continued, perhaps the team trading Bregman would be more of a possibility, but if the Red Sox have a shot at competing this postseason, they will need him on the roster.
