Instead, Anderson went No. 3 to the Seattle Mariners and Holliday fell to the Colorado Rockies at No. 4.

Anderson was the No. 1 player in most draft rankings, but he dropped to the Mariners after the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels passed on him.

Holliday was chosen by the Rockies at No. 4. He joins the team in which his father, Matt, played for during his MLB career.

Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle, who was projected to be a top-three pick, was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals at No. 5.

High-school infielder Eli Willits was the surprise No. 1 pick of the Nationals.
