Ethan Holliday, Brother of Jackson and Son of Matt, Drafted by Rockies with No. 4 Pick

Ethan Holliday is heading to the same team that drafted his father.

The Colorado Rockies drafted the son of Matt Holiday and the brother of Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holiday with the No. 4 overall pick on Sunday.

Holliday was a standout infielder for Stillwater High School and now will look to continue his family's legacy.

Matt was a seventh-round pick of Colorado in 1998 and ultimately played six years in the majors with the club.

As a member of the Rockies, Matt earned three All-Star nods, three Silver Slugger Awards and was a National League batting champ. He helped lead the team to the World Series in 2007, earning NLCS MVP on the way.

Following his time with the Rockies, Matt played for the Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees before returning to Colorado for his final campaign in 2018.

Holliday now has the chance to follow in his father's footsteps and find success in Colorado.

The Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson with the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut a season ago. So far this year, he's put together a strong campaign with 12 home runs, 38 RBI and a .259 batting average.

Holliday was widely projected to be a top-five pick, with many even pegging him as the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter projected the Rockies to take him at No. 4.

While Colorado has a potential star in Holliday, it still has a long way to go before it's ready to compete for a championship. The Rockies, who haven't made the postseason since 2018, are an MLB-worst 22-74 this year.

There's some hope for the future with prospects like Charlie Condon, Cole Carrig and now Holliday, but for now, the Rockies have work to do.
