Both Skenes and Skubal are making their second consecutive All-Star appearances.

Skenes is in familiar territory, as he also earned the starting role for the NL squad as a rookie during the 2024 All-Star Game.

The 23-year-old is in the midst of a dominant 2025 campaign for the Pirates, building upon his inaugural year in which he took home NL Rookie of the Year honors.

In 20 starts this season, Skenes owns a league-leading 2.01 ERA while racking up 131 strikeouts compared to just 30 walks in 121 innings of work. His 0.926 WHIP also represents an improvement over his 2024 campaign.

Skubal has also put together another impressive year after winning the 2024 AL Cy Young Award. He holds a 10-3 record to go along with a 2.23 ERA and 0.826 WHIP.

The 28-year-old has held opposing hitters to a .193 batting average against him, averaging 11.4 strikeouts and a mere 1.2 walks per nine innings.

While the two pitchers will start for opposing teams, Skenes revealed that he's looking forward to chatting with Skubal during the All-Star festivities.

“It would be cool," Skenes said, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale. “More than anything, I want to get him off to the side and ask him how he does what he does, basically. I’ve talked with him a little bit, but to see him do it again, at an even higher level than he did last year arguably, it’s pretty dang cool.”

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will begin on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
