Caitlin Clark Commends Herself Being 'a Really Good Floor General' in Fever's Win

Adam WellsJul 12, 2025

Even though Caitlin Clark is still ironing out some kinks with her shot since returning from a groin injury, the Indiana Fever star was very happy with how she got her teammates involved in Friday's 99-82 win over the Atlanta Dream.

Speaking to ESPN's Alexa Philippou after the victory, Clark hyped herself for being "a really good floor general" for the Fever's offense:

"I know [my shot] is right there and it's going to fall, but I thought honestly this is probably one of the best games where I've just managed the entire pace of the game and managed the way we need to play, especially in the second half, took care of the ball really well. I thought I was just a really good floor general tonight, and I think that's something I can be more proud of than making shots. That's exactly what this team needed."

Clark scored just 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting, but she dished out nine assists against the Dream. All four of her second-half assists came in the fourth quarter, when the Fever outscored Atlanta 30-17 to put the game away.

The two-time All-Star didn't commit a turnover in the second half. She had two turnovers total, tied for her fewest in a WNBA game. Her plus-minus in the fourth quarter was plus-14 in seven minutes, 28 seconds on the floor.

This has been a season of starts and stops for Clark. She only played four games at the start of the year before a quad injury sidelined her for five games. Clark put up 32 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in a 102-88 win over the New York Liberty on June 14 in her first game back.

Since that game, though, Clark has averaged 13.0 points on 31.8 percent shooting (19.5 percent from three) in six starts. She was also out of action for two weeks due to a groin injury before returning on July 9.

Despite the shooting woes, Clark was able to find another way to lift the Fever offense through her passing. Kelsey Mitchell dropped 25 points. Aliyah Boston put up 19 points and tied a season-high with eight assists.

Sophie Cunningham had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Indiana's 99 points were the most allowed by the Dream all season. The Fever (10-10) have a quick turnaround when they host the Dallas Wings on Sunday looking to get over .500 for the first time since their July 3 win over the Las Vegas Aces.

History suggests Clark is going to get shots to fall at some point. When you pair that with her pinpoint passing ability, the Fever are going to become the team everyone expected they would be when the season started.
