NFL Icon Randy Moss Talks ESPN Return After Cancer Diagnosis, 'I'm A Blessed Man'

Paul KasabianJul 11, 2025

Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss spoke excitedly with TMZ Sports about his impending full-time return to ESPN's NFL television coverage after being treated for bile duct cancer, further saying that he's a "blessed man."

"Just being able to experience that was nothing I wish on any man or any human being, but for the fact that God took me through it and brought me out of it back healthy, being able to be back with my family, great support system and some great doctors around me, it was an emotional roller coaster, but the people I met along the way, I'm a blessed man, I'll leave it at that," Moss said to Michael Babcock on the TMZ Sports TV show.

Moss underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and he is cancer-free. He took two months off as he underwent treatment and recovered, but he returned for ESPN's Super Bowl coverage.

Now he's back full-time, and he can't wait to return.

"Man, I look forward to it. I missed my crew. Greenie, Alex, Teddy," Moss said.

He also had jokes for fellow analyst Rex Ryan.

"I really didn't miss Rex Ryan much because he got on my nerves. So, Rex, if you're hearing this, I am coming back, so scoot over," Moss said.

"But really Michael, in all honesty, we have a great group of guys that I work with that I tremendously missed for two months, and ESPN accepted me back with open arms."

"Man, I just can't wait for Week 1 to get back with the crew and talk football!"

The 48-year-old Moss was one of the most dominant wide receivers in NFL history. The six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro caught 982 passes for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns over his career. He's enjoyed a great post-playing career analyzing the NFL for ESPN, and now he'll be back in his seat in September.

"It was an emotional roller coaster, but being able to see the support from the ESPN Sunday Countdown crew, the football fans, and just people in general, man, just showing their love and respect," Moss said to TMZ.

"I thank everybody for their love and their prayers. I really felt everything. I felt all of it."

Thankfully, Moss will be back in the fold soon enough, with Week 1's Sunday slate set for September 7.
