Royals' Carlos Estevez, Tigers' Casey Mize Added to AL Roster for MLB All-Star Game

Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estévez was added to the American League roster for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game on Friday.

Estévez replaced Texas Rangers starter Jacob deGrom on the AL roster. Estévez isn't the only Royals player headed to Atlanta next week as Maikel Garcia was named to the roster to replace Brandon Lowe of the Tampa Bay Rays.

While deGrom won't participate due to an upcoming start for the Rangers on Saturday, he'll still attend the All-Star game and take part in the festivities (via Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News).

Detroit Tigers starter Casey Mize was also named to the AL All-Star squad on Friday as a replacement for Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.

Estévez will be making his second All-Star appearance, while Mize is set to make his first.

The Royals' bullpen has been headlined by Estévez throughout their 2025 campaign, as his 25 saves are tied for the most among AL pitchers this season. He has also posted a 2.03 ERA and 1.050 WHIP.

Opposing batters own a mere .564 OPS against Estévez this year, as he's given up just three home runs in 40 innings of work.

As for Mize, he's in the midst of a breakout 2025 season on a Tigers squad that sits atop the AL Central standings with a 59-35 record.

The 28-year-old owns a 9-2 record to go along with a 2.63 ERA, racking up 73 strikeouts compared to 21 walks in 85.2 innings pitched.

Mize has been particularly sharp as of late, allowing just three earned runs across 18.2 innings of work in his past three starts.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will begin on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
