2025 MLB Mock Draft 1st-Round Predictions for Where Top Prospects Will Land
The consensus opinion surrounding the 2025 MLB draft is which players will be taken at the top on Sunday.
LSU pitcher Kade Anderson, Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle and high school infielder Ethan Holliday are all expected to land in the top four selections.
Which player goes No. 1 to the Washington Nationals is a bit of a mystery because the Nats just fired general manager Mike Rizzo.
The organizational shift in Washington has the potential to affect the No. 1 pick and the decisions made by the teams directly beneath the Nationals in the draft order.
Kade Anderson, LHP, LSU
1 of 3
Kade Anderson appears to be the most likely No. 1 pick for the Nationals right now.
ESPN's Kiley McDaniel estimated that there's a 55 percent chance the LSU left-hander goes first on Sunday.
"There is a lot of uncertainty at this pick after the firing of GM Mike Rizzo. The effect, if you believe the buzz in the industry, is that Anderson is now a little more likely to be the pick. I think it stands at about a 55% chance it will be Anderson, 35% for Ethan Holliday and 10% for Eli Willits/others."
MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo also projected Anderson to be the No. 1 pick in his latest mock draft.
Anderson turned in a terrific postseason that concluded with a strong start in Game 1 of the College World Series championship series.
He's a pitcher who could help the Nats in the near future, and that might be the difference-making attribute that stands out compared to the top prep talent on the board.
Projection: No. 1 to Nationals
Liam Doyle, LHP, Tennessee
2 of 3
Liam Doyle feels like a lock to land with the Los Angeles Angels if Anderson is the top pick.
Doyle is the other collegiate pitcher in the draft class who could make an impact in around 18 months.
The Angels have a track record of taking pro-ready players. Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel, Reid Detmers and Christian Moore were all fast-tracked to the majors after their first-round selections.
McDaniel noted that Doyle is "a strong candidate to be first player to the big leagues in this entire class."
Doyle's profile fits everything the Angels have done in the draft recently, so as long as Anderson is off the board, he will likely be the pick.
Projection: No. 2 to Angels
Ethan Holliday, INF, Stillwater HS (OK)
3 of 3
Ethan Holliday's floor in the first round seems to be the Colorado Rockies at No. 4.
Washington and Los Angeles could favor pitching, which would leave the Seattle Mariners at No. 3 as the first realistic landing spot for Holliday.
Most mock drafts have the Mariners taking a pitcher or Oregon State shortstop Aiva Arquette at No. 3, so Holliday seems to be out of their minds.
Colorado would get a chance to add another young bat to its farm system, while also adding the son of a former star of the franchise. Holliday's dad Matt played for Colorado during his MLB career.
Projection: No. 4 to Colorado
