
Matt Dumba Traded to Penguins from Stars amid 2025 NHL Free Agency
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have acquired Matt Dumba and a 2028 second-round draft pick from the Dallas Stars for defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok.
Dumba, who turns 31 years old on July 25, is a 12-year defenseman who played 63 games last season for Dallas. He finished with one goal and nine assists while totaling 70 hits and 60 blocked shots.
The 24-year-old Kolyachonok has played four NHL seasons, including 35 games last year for Utah and Pittsburgh. For the season, the 6'2" defenseman, who is making the league minimum of $775,000, finished with a pair of goals and five assists alongside 31 blocked shots and 27 hits.

Per Pens Inside Scoop, Pittsburgh now has 17 first, second or third-round draft picks over the next three seasons. They also have 29 draft picks total from 2026-2028.
Dallas, which won 50 games last year, is looking to break through to the Stanley Cup after reaching the Western Conference Finals each of the last three years.
The Penguins are looking to break a three-year streak outside the playoffs.
