Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. Interested in Competing in 2025 MLB Home Run Derby

Scott PolacekJul 9, 2025

Aaron Judge will not participate in this year's Home Run Derby, but the New York Yankees might still have some representation.

At least they will if Jazz Chisholm Jr. receives an invite.

"I think I'd have some fun doing it," he said, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "I'd probably do it. They gotta ask me, though."

While Chisholm missed approximately a month this season because of an oblique strain, he has 15 home runs in 60 games. He is on pace to surpass his career-high of 24 long balls, which he set last season on the Yankees and Miami Marlins.

He is already heading to Atlanta as an All-Star, but competing in the Home Run Derby would give him an even bigger national stage. He also knows he would ask his stepfather, Geron Sands, to be his pitcher in the contest.

"He's been coaching me from when I was a baby, so we've talked about it," Chisholm said. "Like, 'Yeah, you're gonna be my Home Run Derby thrower when I get to the league.'"

As of Wednesday evening, six of the eight spots in the Home Run Derby have been filled. Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, James Wood of the Washington Nationals, Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves and Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates were already known.

And then Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays announced he will also be participating:

With stars such as Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber not participating, this year's Home Run Derby might be wide open. Chisholm isn't a traditional power hitter who launches 40 home runs a year, but he has demonstrated impressive power when in the lineup this season.

He would like to show off that power Monday.
