Vikings Donate $500K to Support Recovery Efforts After Texas Hill Country Floods

Joseph ZuckerJul 9, 2025

The Minnesota Vikings are donating $500,000 toward the recovery efforts from flooding in Central Texas' Hill Country.

"We are deeply saddened by the continued devastation and loss of life in Texas Hill Country and can't imagine the pain so many are experiencing," the organization said. "We are praying for peace for the families who have lost a loved one and strength for those who continue to risk their lives leading the rescue and recovery effort."

Franchises across the sports spectrum have pledged sizable sums to help the community rebuild in the wake of the devastation.

Officials in Texas said Wednesday the death toll now stands at 119, with as many as 161 people potentially still missing and unaccounted for.

Heavy rainfall caused the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in less than an hour on July 4. The current was so strong that some houses were carried off their foundations entirely. Local campgrounds were impacted as well.

One location, Camp Mystic, was hosting a Christian summer camp for girls. Victims of the flooding include children and staffers who were attending the event.

Max McQuarrie is a captain with the Virginia Beach Water Rescue Team, which was sent to help first responders in the area. He told CNN it could take "days, if not weeks" to complete a full search of the river.

"When we got here, we got the update that we’re looking at 60 miles of river," McQuarrie said. "So we have a long, long way to go to really thoroughly search this area."
