MLB announced that Jenks died at the age of 44 on July 4 after a battle with adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer.
"We have lost an iconic member of the White Sox family today," White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. "None of us will ever forget that ninth inning of Game 4 in Houston, all that Bobby did for the 2005 World Series champions and for the entire Sox organization during his time in Chicago. He and his family knew cancer would be his toughest battle, and he will be missed as a husband, father, friend, and teammate. He will forever hold a special place in all our hearts."
Jenks starred for the White Sox from 2005 to 2010 before playing his final major-league season with the Boston Red Sox in 2011. In his prime, he was one of the most dominant closers in MLB. He earned back-to-back All-Star appearances in 2006 and 2007.
Jenks' crowning moment came when he helped Chicago sweep the Houston Astros in the 2005 World Series. He recorded saves in Games 1 and 4, throwing the final pitch of the series to give the White Sox their first World Series title since 1917.
Chicago has a 30-62 record entering Wednesday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays (54-38). The White Sox will play a four-game series against the Cleveland Guardians (42-48) to close out the first half of the MLB season before the All-Star break.
