Charlotte Flair Says She Was 'Rocked' By Tiffany Stratton Promo Before WrestleMania 41
Ahead of WrestleMania 41, Tiffany Stratton used a promo to take some shots at her opponent, Charlotte Flair.
The promo quickly turned personal, as Flair received boos from the crowd and Stratton brought up Flair's personal life, including her divorce from WWE Superstar Andrade.
In a piece for The Players' Tribune, Flair opened up about how the moment "rocked" her. She said she felt as if the attacks were aimed at her as a person rather than her as a wrestler.
"And I think in those times when people have seen me appear rattled by the booing, those are just the times when Iโve felt like โ at least for a moment โ the boos arenโt for Charlotte. Theyโre for Ashley. Theyโre for me," she wrote. "Theyโre because of the way I look. Or because of the energy Iโm giving off as a woman. Or because of real trauma Iโve gone through in real life. So when it got mentioned in Chicago that I have an '0โ3 record at marriages' โฆ yeah, it rocked me legit. Iโm not too proud to tell you that. I donโt need everyone thinking Iโm playing 5-D chess all of the time. My reaction to that line was as genuine as it gets. Because โ and maybe this makes me naive โ in my head?? Charlotte hasnโt been divorced. So I wasnโt expecting it to come up in that promoโฆ.. and then all of a sudden I had an entire arena cheering as I got mocked for something that was (and frankly still is) devastating to me."
After the promo for WrestleMania 41, Stratton went on to beat Flair to retain the WWE Women's Championship.
But after the hard moment at WrestleMania 41, Flair is looking to come back strong and become a champion once again. She'll get a chance to do so at WWE Evolution on Sunday, where she'll team up with Alexa Bliss to try to win the WWE Womenโs Tag Team Championships. Teams from NXT,ย Raw andย SmackDown will take on Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez for the title.
