A'ja Wilson Ruled Out with Wrist Injury After Hard Fall in Aces vs. Liberty

Paul KasabianJul 8, 2025

Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson left her team's Tuesday road game at the New York Liberty late in the second quarter due to a right wrist injury and did not return after being ruled out. ESPN's Holly Rowe relayed the news from the Aces' public relations staff during the national broadcast.

After the game, Aces head coach Becky Hammon told reporters Wilson will get an MRI on Wednesday.

Wilson suffered the injury with just over four minutes remaining in the first half after Wilson drove to the lane and rose for a layup attempt. Wilson drew a shooting foul on the play but then fell hard to the court.

Thankfully, Wilson stayed in the game for the time being and even shot both free throws, making each attempt. She remained in the contest until Kierstan Bell replaced her with 2:22 left in the first half. Bell started in place of Wilson in the second half.

The 2025 season has been a tough one for the Aces, who are now 9-10 after falling 87-78 to the Liberty. They've now dropped into an eighth-place tie with the Washington Mystics in the 13-team WNBA. The Aces are one of six teams who have been outscored by their opponents this year, and it's not impossible to envision Las Vegas seeing itself in a fight just to make the eight-team playoff later this summer.

So needless to say, the Aces need the reigning WNBA MVP, a three-time winner of the award who also led Las Vegas to back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. Entering Tuesday, Wilson was having a highly productive season as usual, averaging 21.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

Wilson already missed three-plus games earlier this year after being placed in concussion protocol, and the Aces didn't fare particularly well, going 1-2.

It's a wait-and-see game now as fans await news on the nature of her injury. There seemingly was an encouraging sign in the second half, as Wilson was seen returning to the bench to cheer on her teammates, albeit with wrapping around her right wrist.

Ultimately, the hope is for Wilson to get well soon ASAP as the Aces round the midway point of the 2025 campaign.
