Brock Purdy Says Deebo Samuel's Trade To Commanders 'Sucks,' Says WR is His 'Brother'
Brock Purdy is apparently not a fan of the San Francisco 49ers' decision to trade Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders this offseason.
"It sucks," Purdy said when asked about the Samuel trade at the 2:02:45 mark of Tuesday's episode of the Bussin' With the Boys podcast. "He's my boy. I love my Deebo. Day one, he's always had my back, and believed in me when I got in."

Purdy went on to say that Samuel had supported him since he first won the starting role from former 49ers star Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2022 season.
"I didn't really know how the guys were going to take it, when I did get thrown in," Purdy said. "Jimmy went down, I was like the last quarterback, and Deebo was nothing but great to me. Building me up and just giving me confidence. In games, we fed off each other's energy and building each other up. It was awesome. And over the last couple of years, same thing.
"We created a great relationship. He's my brother. But, again, that's just how this business goes. I hope he goes to Washington and kills it and does great."
Purdy also responded to the criticism of clips of Samuel that emerged from OTAs.
"People, they see things online, because the media can come out and videotape anything. You could be in a walkthrough, going half-speed and all that, and they blow it out of proportion," Purdy said. "I know when the season comes rolling around, too, Deebo is going to have a chip on his shoulder this year for sure, and he's going to be just fine."
The 49ers traded Samuel and his expiring contract to the Commanders in March in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.
Samuel shared an Instagram story after the trade was announced in March, telling Purdy to "get what you deserve."
Two months later, Purdy signed a five-year, $265 million deal with $181 million guaranteed to solidify his position as the Niners' starting quarterback.
The deal makes Purdy the eighth-highest-paid quarterback in terms of average salary per year, according to Over the Cap.
The Commanders took on the entirety of Samuel's $17.55 million salary, while the 49ers took on a dead money hit of $34.1 million as part of the trade, per Over the Cap.
Washington subsequently restructured Samuel's contract by guaranteeing his $17 million salary and adding $3 million in incentives.
Samuel will now have a chance to make more money while working with Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, while Purdy will have to play his last season before his extension kicks in without one of his top targets from last season.
Brandon Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the 49ers before suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee last October. He will be tasked with playing up to that contract's standards and taking on a larger target share in order to make up for Samuel's absence next season.
