Angel Reese Extends Historic WNBA Rebounding Streak as Sky Lose to Mystics

In what has been a common refrain for the Chicago Sky during the 2025 WNBA season, Angel Reese dropped a double-double in a losing effort.

Reese finished with 22 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 15 rebounds as the Sky fell 81-79 to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday afternoon. She hit double figures in both categories by halftime.

Mystics center Shakira Austin missed a pair of free throws with 31.8 seconds on the clock but collected the loose ball after her second effort and eventually scored inside to put Washington up 79-77.

Reese was fouled at the other end of the floor and sank both of her tries to tie the score back up, but it was Austin again who provided the difference. Her two makes from the charity stripe handed Washington the win.

It was a team effort from the Mystics. Forward Emily Engstler was the only Washington player who didn't score. Austin, meanwhile, was one of four to hit double digits in scoring.

Reese at least extended her streak of 15-plus rebounds to six games.

Center Elizabeth Williams chipped in with 20 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

Reese and Williams were unable to nullify the Mystics around the basket, though. Washington finished with a 46-30 edge in points in the paint.

A home matchup with the Dallas Wings gives Chicago an opportunity to get back in the win column, and notching a victory there will be important because a pair of home matchups with the first-place Minnesota Lynx follow that.

The Sky can't keep losing ground in the playoff race. A loss to Dallas could deepen their current hole given what comes after.
