Angel Reese Calls Out WNBA Refs After Sky's Loss to Lynx, 'I'm Tired of This S--t'

Joseph ZuckerJul 7, 2025

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese called on the WNBA to improve the standard of officiating around the league following her team's 80-75 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday.

"I think this is a leaping step for us, and obviously we know we can compete with the best, but [the officiating] has to be fixed," she told reporters after the game. "And I don't give a damn if I get fined because that s--t is cheap, and I'm tired of this s--t. 'Cause I've been nice, and I've been humble with it, but I am tired of this s--t."

Reese echoed the sentiment on social media as well:

The Sky attempted eight free throws to 17 for the Lynx. Minnesota finished with a seven-point edge at the charity stripe.

In terms of her complaints about the referees, Reese will have to get in line because this is a concern that spans multiple seasons.

Back in 2023, one general manager told The Athletic's Ben Pickman that there was a perception the officiating crews were turning over too much. More than that, the refs who were considered to be doing a good job in the eyes of some wound up moving to the NBA.

The Lynx might find some irony in Reese's remarks because they didn't hide their frustration with how the 2024 WNBA Finals, particularly the decisive Game 5, were officiated.

For Reese and the Sky, playing well and coming up just short against Minnesota stings a little more because of how the season is unfolding. At 5-12, Chicago owns the second-worst record in the WNBA. It needs to close a 3.5-game gap just to move into eighth place.

Beating the Lynx, who are off to a 17-2 start, wouldn't have immediately solved all of the Sky's problems. It would've been a confidence-boosting result, though, one with a tangible impact on the standings.
