MLB Exec Says Jarren Duran Is Red Sox OF 'Most Likely' to Be Traded at 2025 Deadline

Zach BacharJul 7, 2025

Jarren Duran is viewed as the likeliest Boston Red Sox outfielder to experience a change of scenery prior to the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

“I think they’re going to continue to do things that solve their long-term issues,” an American League executive told Jayson Stark of The Athletic. “So I think (Jarren) Duran is probably in play for a lot of teams. … I think he’s the most likely of those players in their outfield to change teams.”

Boston's outfield has been crowded this season with Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Rob Refsnyder and rookie Roman Anthony alongside Duran.

Abreu's name has also surfaced in trade rumors, but it appears that Duran is viewed as the most likely candidate to experience a change of scenery.

Duran wrapped up a breakout 2024 season in Boston, finishing eighth in American League MVP voting. He recorded 21 home runs, 48 doubles and 14 triples while posting a .285/.342/.492 slash line.

He hasn't taken another step forward in 2025, as he's hitting .255 with six home runs and 44 runs batted in. Duran's 10 triples are still the most in the majors this season, though.

The Red Sox could move him to open up more playing time for Anthony, who's slashing .229/.340/.349 through the first 24 games of his MLB career.

One potential suitor for Duran is the San Diego Padres. Dennis Lin of The Athletic reported on June 2 that the Padres were interested in the 28-year-old.

The 2025 MLB trade deadline is at 6 p.m. ET on July 31.
