Per Cara Tabachnick, Melissa Gaffney and Kerry Breen of CBS News, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said Saturday that 27 deaths have been reported as a result of flash floods in central Texas, and another 23 to 25 people have been reported missing.
An unexpectedly high volume of rainfall caused the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in 45 minutes on Friday, per Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
The National Weather Service determined that the Guadalupe River reached its second-highest height on record as a result of the rainfall, surpassing that of the 1987 flood, which resulted in the death of 10 people who were attending a summer camp.
According to CBS News, this year's flood also affected a children's summer camp. The 23 to 25 people who have been reported missing were in attendance at Camp Mystic.
Leitha noted that 160 air rescues have been launched, resulting in 858 successful rescues as of Saturday.
Few organizations in sports have been more generous than the Texans when it comes to making donations after catastrophic events
Earlier this year, the Texans made a $1 million donation to aid relief efforts during the California wildfires, which killed at least 30 people and caused property damage throughout southern California.
