Mets' Steve Cohen Called 'Type of Owner Everybody Wants His Team to Have' by Insider
Since taking over the New York Mets following the 2020 season, team owner Steve Cohen has transformed the franchise into a leading destination for top free agents.
ESPN's Jorge Castillo spoke to a team insider who explained that Cohen's willingness to do whatever it takes to improve his team has made the Mets a more attractive landing spot for star players.
"He's the type of owner everybody wants his team to have," the source told Castillo. "He puts his money where his mouth is."

In addition to spending top-dollar for major moves like signing star outfielder Juan Soto and extending star shortstop Francisco Lindor, Cohen has also worked diligently to change the culture of the Mets.
According to Castillo, Cohen "implemented pay raises across the board after sensing a toxic environment in which employees constantly pushed for promotions because they felt it was the only way to receive more compensation under the previous ownership." He also offered money for rideshares to employees who wish to avoid taking public transportation late at night. Cohen's wife, Alex, also instituted the opening of an expanded family room and day care center, which players "have gushed over."
At 49-38, the Mets sit two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. They will be trying to win a rubber match against the Milwaukee Brewers (48-38) on Thursday night.
