Wimbledon 2025 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Wednesday's Bracket

Nicholas NathansonJul 2, 2025

On Wednesday, the second round of Wimbledon kicked off.

Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz got back on track, defeating qualifier and home crowd favorite Oliver Tarvet in straight sets, while fifth-seed Taylor Fritz defeated Gabriel Diallo in another thrilling five-set match.

However, Wednesday did mark the end of the road for No. 15 seed Frances Tiafoe, who fell to Cameron Norrie in a tightly contested four-set match.

In the women's draw, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka advanced past Marie Bouzkova, while Madison Keys and Naomi Osaka both won.

But the day wasn't without a huge upset, as 2024 Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini fell to Kamilla Rakhimova in three sets. Paolini, the fourth seed, joined Coco Gauff (2), Jessica Pegula (3) and Qinwen Zheng (5), on the sideline, leaving Sabalenka as the only remaining top-five seed in the women's draw.

Below, we've got you covered with results and top reactions from Wednesday's action.

Carlos Alcaraz Finds His Best Tennis

Carlos Alcaraz

After a first-round match that required four and a half hours and five sets, Carlos Alcaraz found his groove on Wednesday.

The two-time defending champion defeated Oliver Tarvet in straight sets to advance to the third round.

Alcaraz won the first set 6-1, but it was far from easy. In fact, he needed 44 minutes to do so while saving all eight break points.

Tarvet immediately broke Alcaraz in the second set, gaining momentum with the support of the home crowd.

However, the Spaniard remained unfazed, retaliating with a break to love before ultimately seizing the set.

Alcaraz broke again early in the third set, but Tarvet returned the favor right away.

Just as he did a set before, Alcaraz quickly put it behind him and broke Tarvet right back to love, taking a stranglehold on the third set.

The No. 2 seed was far better on Wednesday than he was against Fabio Fognini in his first-round matchup.

His first serve percentage was up seven percent, and he delivered a much more consistent effort, committing 29 unforced errors compared to 62 in his first-round match.

Alcaraz continues to remain the favorite to defend his crown, but the path forward will get more difficult, beginning with an in-form and heavy-serving Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round.

Taylor Fritz Wins Another Five-Set Nailbiter

Taylor Fritz

On a day where American men dropped like flies at the All England Club, Taylor Fritz did everything he could to survive.

The five seed defeated Gabriel Diallo in a five-set thriller—his second consecutive five-set match of the tournament.

Fritz played arguably his most consistent match on the grass-court swing, firing 50 winners, committing just 16 unforced errors, and winning 80 percent of points behind his first serve.

But Diallo’s blistering serve and fearless risk-taking made this a 50-50 match.

After taking a two-set-to-one lead, Fritz had five break point opportunities in the fourth set, but Diallo would not go away quietly.

Midway through the fifth set, Fritz finally broke the Canadian and then rode his momentum to secure the victory.

The top-ranked American's path will not get any easier with either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Botic Van De Zandschulp waiting in the third round.

But if he's able to play the way he did today, it'll take a near-perfect effort for either of the two players to pull off the upset.

Frances Tiafoe Heads Home Early

Frances Tiafoe

Frances Tiafoe entered Wimbledon with immense confidence after breaking out at Roland-Garros and reaching his first quarterfinal on the red clay.

Sure, he had lost his only tune-up event on the grass surface to Dan Evans. But he’d reached the third round four straight years.

And with a dominant serve, forehand, and impressive net skills, a deep run was well within reach.

But that all came crashing down on Wednesday against home crowd favorite Cam Norrie.

Tiafoe came out hot, taking the first set in 35 minutes while committing just 4 unforced errors.

But, as the match continued, Norrie's relentless consistency began to wear down the American.

Tiafoe hit a remarkable 57 winners in total but committed 29 unforced errors over the final three sets as Norrie dictated the pace and quite often came out victorious in lengthy rallies.

Norrie hit 48 winners to just 23 unforced errors while winning 76 percent of points on his first serve.

The 29-year-old will enter as the underdog again in the third round, when he faces Jiri Lehecka.

But with the home crowd behind him and his top form, ruling out another upset would be foolish.

Aryna Sabalenka Escapes Battle With Relentless Power

Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka found herself in jeopardy of losing the first set after Marie Bouzkova had an opportunity to serve it out.

But she broke back before using her trademark physicality and aggression to win the tiebreaker.

From there, the three-time major champion took full control.

Sabalenka played a remarkable second set, not only winning every point on her first serve but also consistently dictating pace.

Sabalenka's power was evident throughout the entire match. She won 87 percent of points on her first serve and hit 40 winners in just two sets.

Bouzkova presents a challenge for most players due to her dedication to each point, consistent play, and exceptional return skills.

However, Sabalenka managed to advance and will now go on to face Emma Raducanu in the third round.

Jasmine Paolini Stunned By Kamilla Rakhimova

Jasmine Paolini

Jasmine Paolini reached the Wimbledon final last year.

Karolina Rakhimova had never advanced beyond the second round at the All England Club.

But, on Wednesday, neither mattered when the two met on No. 3 court.

Rakhimova pulled off an unlikely upset, defeating the fourth seed in three sets, in a draw that had already taken a surprising turn.

After losing the first set, Rakhimova started to settle into her rhythm.

The World No. 80 hit six double faults in the opening set, 16 unforced errors, and had made just 47 percent of her first serves in.

In the second set, she played with more aggression and switched up her tactics, winning 83 percent of points at the net after not coming in once in the first set.

Rakhimova immediately broke the Italian in the third set and rode the momentum to victory.

With Paolini eliminated, the third round of the Wimbledon women's draw will be without four of the top five seeds for the first time since 2018.

Meanwhile, Rakhimova will face Linda Noskova in the third round, looking to reach the fourth round of a major for the first time in her career.
