K'Andre Miller Lands $60M Hurricanes Contract in Rangers Sign-and-Trade

Andrew PetersJul 1, 2025

K'Andre Miller is joining a new squad after spending the first five years of his career with the New York Rangers.

According to the Carolina Hurricanes, Miller will sign an eight-year, $60 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade with the Rangers.

New York will acquire Scott Morrow, a 2026 first-round pick and 2026 second-round pick.

Peter Baugh of The Athletic reported the first-round pick is conditional:

Though New York lost a key defenseman in Miller, his departure came after the team signed free-agent defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to a seven-year deal.

Before signing the deal with the Hurricanes, Miller was set to hit restricted free agency and was arbitration-eligible. Instead of exercising his arbitration rights, he's now committed to Carolina for the long term.

Miller, the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 draft, scored 36 goals and logged 96 assists in 368 regular-season games with the Rangers. The defenseman is coming off a season in which he picked up seven goals and 20 assists in 74 contests.

Miller was at his best during the 2022-23 campaign, logging nine goals and 34 assists, both career highs, in 79 games. Carolina will hope to get that version of Miller.

Hurricanes defensemen Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov are both on the free-agent market this offseason and could be on their way out, but the addition of Miller to play alongside Jaccob Slavin, Sean Walker, Shayne Gostisbehere and Jalen Chatfield on the blue line gives the team assurance that it will be set on defense this year.
