Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
When the WWE: Unreal docuseries debuts on Netflix on July 29, it will reportedly feature some influence from WWE legend and Hollywood star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
According to John Pollock and Brandon Thurston of Post Wrestling, The Rock and his team "did provide notes" regarding his appearances in the Omaha Productions, NFL Films, Skydance Sports, and WWE joint venture, which offers a backstage glimpse at the creative process in WWE.
The Rock will reportedly be primarily featured in the fourth episode of the show, which will focus on John Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber back in March.
After Cena won the men's Elimination Chamber match, he attacked Cody Rhodes and turned heel for the first time in more than 20 years.
The Rock was on hand for Elimination Chamber in order to get an answer from Rhodes regarding whether he would sell his soul to The Final Boss. After Cody refused, Cena attacked him at The Rock's behest.
In hindsight, that has become a controversial segment since The Rock was not involved at all in the build toward Cena vs. Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, nor did he appear at WrestleMania itself.
Per Pollock and Thurston, the fifth episode of WWE: Unreal is all about WrestleMania 41, and The Rock is not even mentioned in it.
The Rock has not appeared on WWE programming since Elimination Chamber, although he had plenty to say about WrestleMania on the Pat McAfee Show a couple of days after WrestleMania.
He gave his take on WrestleMania as a whole and the Cena vs. Rhodes match, while also explaining why he removed himself from the storyline.
With The Rock being part of WWE: Unreal, fans may get a bit more insight into the decision-making process behind Cena's heel turn and The Rock's involvement or lack thereof.
Reported Backstage Reaction to Cena-Robinson Spot at NOC
One of the most unexpected moments of the Night of Champions premium live event reportedly garnered a big reaction backstage at the event.
At one point during the WWE Championship main event between John Cena and CM Punk, the referee was knocked out. That led to veteran official Charles Robinson sprinting down the aisle en route to the ring.
However, just as he was about to hit the ring, Cena came running in from off screen and knocked Robinson down with a stiff shoulder tackle.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Cultaholic.com's Jack Atkins), those who were watching backstage broke out into "huge laughter" when Robinson took the bump.
Fightful added that Robinson was doing fine after the spot and didn't suffer an injury of any kind.
Robinson running to the ring was a callback to one of the most famous GIFs in all of pro wrestling, but Cena intervening added the element of surprise.
That moment was just one aspect of a match that devolved into chaos with Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Sami Zayn and Penta all getting involved.
In the end, Cena took advantage of Rollins hitting Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase by pinning him to retain the WWE title.
Dunne, Bate Reportedly Both Nursing Injuries
A potential explanation has emerged regarding why Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate have been absent from WWE programming for the past month.
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) reported this week that he "believes" both Dunne and Bate are injured.
After missing nearly nine months due to a torn pectoral tendon, Bate made his surprise return to WWE programming on the March 31 episode of Raw in London alongside his New Catch Republic teammate in Dunne.
Bate and Dunne lost a tag team match to New Day that night, and a few weeks later, they competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 41.
They teamed up in winning efforts against the Creed Brothers on the April 21 WWE Main Event and the team of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller on the May 26 WWE Main Event, but they have not made an appearance since then.
The nature and severity of the injuries Bate and Dunne are reportedly dealing with remain unclear, but they have kept them out of the fold for over a month.
Given that New Catch Republic is among the best in-ring tag teams WWE has to offer, their return would potentially provide a major boost to the tag division.
