Matthew Knies, Maple Leafs Agree to 6-Year, $46.5M Contract Extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs and forward Matthew Knies have agreed to a six-year, $46.5 million contract extension, the team confirmed on Tuesday.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first reported the deal on Sunday.
Knies tallied five goals and two assists over the Maple Leafs’ 13-game run in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Alongside Knies, the Maple Leafs advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs before falling in a hard-fought seven-game series, 4-3, to the eventual champion Florida Panthers.
Knies’ entry-level deal, worth $975,000, expired at the end of the season, making him a restricted free agent before he inked his new extension worth $7.75 million annually.
In 78 games last season, the 22-year-old posted career highs with 29 goals, 29 assists and 58 points, finishing with a plus-7 rating.
A second-round pick (No. 57 overall) by Toronto in the 2021 NHL Draft out of Minnesota, Knies had a breakout campaign last season that firmly justified the hefty new contract.
He spent much of the season on the top line alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, both of whom also played key roles in leading the team. The trio finished third, fourth and fifth in goals scored for the Maple Leafs this season.
