Adrian Peterson Boxing Fight Interests Joe Castaneda After Viral Poker Video

Scott PolacekJun 29, 2025

If former NFL running back Adrian Peterson wants to get back in the boxing ring, there is a familiar foe who would be ready to join him.

Joe Castaneda, who got into a fistfight with Peterson in May regarding a poker game, told TMZ Sports he would be willing to fight the Minnesota Vikings legend in a sanctioned boxing match.

"I wouldn't shy away from it," he said during the interview published Sunday. "That would be totally up to him."

Peterson and Castaneda made headlines when they fought at JokerStars, which is a social club in Houston, in May. TMZ Sports reported on the incident, noting it occurred due to "a dispute over a hand."

The former NFL running back said "one thing led to another" and that he felt "regret," while Castaneda also said it was "water under the bridge" in his latest interview.

"Me and the guy, we're cool," Peterson said. "We've known each other. It was literally like a brother situation. We agreed to disagree, we had our words, and we threw blows—and that was it."

Peterson is no stranger to boxing, as he and fellow former NFL running back Le'Veon Bell fought each other in a celebrity event in 2022. Bell got the best of his counterpart in that one via a fifth-round TKO:

While he would surely be looking for a different result if he fought Castaneda, Peterson is still best known for his dominant NFL career. He suited up for the Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks from 2007 to 2021.

His resume included a league MVP, an Offensive Player of the Year, an Offensive Rookie of the Year, seven Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro nods and three seasons when he led the league in rushing yards.
